Our Mission
Honor Flight Maine’s mission is to honor America’s veterans for all their service and sacrifices. The organization provides 3–5 trips per year to transport Maine veterans—primarily those from World War II, Korea, and Vietnam—to Washington, D.C., so they can tour, experience, and reflect at their memorials. These trips include visits to sites such as the WWII, Korean, and Vietnam memorials, Arlington Cemetery, the Lincoln Memorial, and the Women’s Military Museum. All expenses for veterans are covered, including airfare, lodging, meals, and transportation. The organization prioritizes the most frail and terminally ill veterans to ensure they can make this journey at no cost to them.
Our Vision
The vision is to transport every eligible Maine veteran to Washington, D.C., to see the memorials built in their honor. This reflects a commitment to preserving the legacy of these veterans and expressing gratitude before time runs out, especially for aging WWII veterans. The organization strives to make these trips a meaningful and memorable experience, including special events like “mail call” and welcome-home celebrations.
Guitars for Vets Program at Smith-Tobey Post
We’re excited to announce that Guitars for Vets (G4V) is coming to our Legion! This incredible program uses the healing power of music to help veterans cope with the challenges of service-related trauma. Through guitar lessons and camaraderie, G4V provides a supportive environment where veterans can find peace, purpose, and community.
Mission:
Guitars for Vets aims to provide emotional healing and empowerment to veterans through music. By offering free guitar lessons and instruments to those struggling with PTSD and other service-related issues, the program helps veterans rediscover joy and connection.
Lesson Schedule:
- Mondays and Wednesdays at 6:00 PM
